RRA Information Sheet for landlords in Durham

RRA Information Sheet works exactly the same for every landlord in England, Durham included - there's no local variation on the legal duty itself. What is specific to Durham is the area it covers, below.

The "How to Rent" guide was withdrawn on 1 May 2026. Existing tenancies with a written agreement needed the Renters' Rights Act Information Sheet by 31 May 2026, a one-off deadline. Tenancies created on or after 1 May 2026 don't get the sheet: they need written key-terms information before the tenancy is agreed. Get this wrong and the penalty runs up to £7,000 - Kept tracks the right deadline for each tenancy and logs proof it was served.

How to meet this duty, step by step

Step1 / 3

Kept works out your deadline

Tenancy started before 1 May 2026? The fixed deadline was 31 May 2026. Started on or after? Written key-terms information is due before the tenancy is agreed. Kept applies the right rule automatically rather than leaving you to remember which one applies.

Step2 / 3

Serve it, then log it

Download the current official Information Sheet, send it, and record the date and method (email, in person, post) against the tenancy.

Step3 / 3

Evidence ready if it's ever challenged

Who was served, when, and how - a dated record sits on the tenancy file, ready for an audit pack.

Straight answers.

Do I still need to give tenants "How to Rent"?

No - it was withdrawn on 1 May 2026 and no longer applies to any tenancy. The one edge case: a section 21/8 notice served before 1 May 2026 that hadn't concluded by that date gets a month's grace to serve the Information Sheet instead once the notice lapses or the case ends.

What's the actual penalty for missing this?

Up to £7,000 - and it's a document requirement that's easy to overlook because it's new, which is exactly why Kept tracks it as its own obligation rather than folding it into general move-in paperwork.

Do new tenancies need the Information Sheet?

No. Tenancies created on or after 1 May 2026 need written information about the key terms instead, given before the tenancy is agreed. Kept applies the right rule for each tenancy based on when it started.
